"One of the many challenges that confront the urban churches today is the need for trained leadership--not just more clergy, but grass-roots leadership, women and men, who are both called by God and empowered by the Spirit to make a difference in their communities. Theological education that is geared to training the indigenous leadership of urban churches in the context of their everyday ministry is needed on all levels. Unfortunately, much of theological education does not critically fit the urban scene, often choosing to ignore the city as a positive locus of God's redemptive activity. The result is an educational process and product that approach urban ministry as a problem to be solved rather than as an opportunity to discover the signs of God's reign."
-Beyond Cheap Grace by Eldin Vallafane
neXus Boston values urban youth workers. Everyone on staff at neXus Boston has worked with urban youth, whether it's on the streets, in the church or in the classroom. We believe that urban youth workers are not simply cheap labor or future pastors, but are pastors and ministers right now who are seeking to restore our city. neXus Boston also believes in the vision to See the New City. We believe the New City is God's reign over our city and that He has invited us to participate in that reign. As His reign moves over our city we respond by bringing restoration and reconciliation to the city.
The ancients understood that their civilization was always one generation away from destruction. If they did not educate their children and pass on their traditions then their civilization would be extinct. Following that ancient wisdom, we believe that our kids are the future and that there is a bright future ahead of us. neXus Boston values our youth and hope. Jim Wallis said, "Hope is believing in spite of the evidence, then watching the evidence change." neXus Boston believes that peace and love will rule our streets and that youth workers are a key to our New City. Therefore, we place our hope in youth workers and seek to do all we can to support, train, research and network with the youth workers of Boston.
