neXus Research

neXus Boston believes that research is a vital aspect of successful youth work.  Youth culture is always changing and the practice of youth work ought to change as to fit it.  We realize that youth workers often do not have the time or the resources to put toward research, so we seek to provide relevant research and then translate that information into a medium that is not only readable, but that aims toward an understanding of the "best practices" for youth work.  The following if all research that we have completed at neXus Boston is available to either read online or to download.

 Purpose of Research

NeXus Boston, as a think tank, conducts research on a variety of topics related to youth ministry and youth work.  This research is to serve the needs of workers in the secular and non-secular arenas.  The climate of the city leads NeXus Boston to focus on three major themes for the final quarter of the year.  These topics are youth violence, faith influence on risky behavior and violence, and violence perpetuated against and amongst adolescent females.

Due to the magnitude of youth research topics, we are developing databases to collect and sort information on individuals, organizations, research centers, programs, and funding sources.  We are researching experts in the criminal justice, youth development, gang violence, and public health fields, and reaching out to them as resources and partners.

We are summarizing articles and writing implications for youth workers, officials,  and educators.  These articles can be found on the website and in the Center for Youth Studies Online Encyclopedia.    We will be publishing our first newsletter with a summary of findings and hot topics on adolescent females and violence in December.
